An accomplished teacher, leader, counselor and spiritual companion, Sister Maureen dedicated her life to her faith and service to the people of God.
Born in the Bronx, she attended Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, New York. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Dallas, Pennsylvania, at the age of 17. A graduate of College Misericordia (now Misericordia University), Sister Maureen earned a bachelor’s degree in English and French. Subsequently, she earned a master’s degree in English at the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pennsylvania, followed by a master’s degree in counseling from Iona College in Iona, New York, and a doctorate of ministry in pastoral counseling from the Graduate Theological Foundation at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana.
Initially she taught for 12 years in the dioceses of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Brooklyn, New York. She also used her gift of teaching to become a highly respected counselor, international speaker/consultant, spiritual director and retreat director.
She served for eight years as the president of the former Dallas Regional Community. She was responsible for the people and financial resources of the then-400 members ministering throughout the United States and Guyana, South America. Under her leadership, the community sponsored two colleges and co-sponsored hospitals and long-term care facilities in response to the needs of new and emerging ministries.
After leadership, Maureen returned to counseling and spiritually companioning those in need until her death. She lived her last three years at the Sisters’ residence at Mercy Center in Dallas, Pennsylvania.
