Age 92

Sister Mary Grace Monroe will be remembered as a gentle, loving person who brought Mercy to all she encountered in her long and fruitful life.

Taught by the Sisters of Mercy, she entered the novitiate in 1948 at the age of 18.  Early years found her teaching in the grammar schools of the Brooklyn and Rockville Centre Dioceses. Eventually she began to minister in Our Lady of Peace Parish, Lynbrook, New York, where she was to spend the next 57 years ministering to children and adults as the director of faith formation. Sister Mary Grace instructed children and adults in preparation for the sacraments and counseled and encouraged parishioners on their spiritual journey. In recent years, Grace spent much of her time quietly praying and enjoying the presence of “Rosie,” a beloved dog, who faithfully accompanied her in her last days as she moved closer to meeting with the God of Mercy she so loved all her life.
