Age 86

Inspired by her motto, “Thy will be done,” Sister Mary Georgeanna provided spiritual care and support for students, patients and their families throughout her ministerial career. 

Entering the Sisters of Mercy at the age of 18 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Our Lady of Cincinnati College in Cincinnati, Ohio, a master’s degree in education from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, and a registered nurse certificate at Aquinas Jr. College in Nashville, Tennessee. 

Mary Georgeanna served as nurse at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, St. Bernard Retirement Home in Nashville, Tennessee, and Mercy Convent, also in Nashville.

For nine years, she was a liturgist, mission coordinator and music minister at Sacred Heart Cathedral School in Knoxville, Tennessee. For seven years, she returned to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, to serve as Mercy sponsorship staff.

Her hobbies included reading, puzzles, and playing the guitar and piano.  Her commitment to God and her vows was reflected in her everyday life.
