Age 92

Sister Frances was much-loved for her deep faith, constant generosity and thoughtful, friendly manner.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, one of nine children, Sister Frances entered the Sisters of Mercy in Louisville, Kentucky at the age of 18. She earned degrees in education from Our Lady of Cincinnati College in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Spaulding University in Louisville, Kentucky.

Always an educator, she spent most of her teaching years at St. Basil’s in Louisville, Kentucky, but also served in Columbus, Ohio, and Paducah and Pleasure Ridge Park, both in Kentucky. She was also a woman of many hobbies that always benefitted others. She visited the sick in nursing homes and joined a group that made rosaries. An accomplished seamstress, she also quilted and crocheted. She baked bread, donuts and treats for the residents of McAuley Convent in Cincinnati, Ohio, and revived her skill as a candy maker making with her specialties of bourbon balls, peanut brittle and buckeyes.

A deeply spiritual person, she possessed various statues, holy cards, devotional books—all of which were well-thumbed.  She used to say the Divine Office daily and was an excellent lector and reader during liturgies.
