Age 92
Born in Nicktown, Pennsylvania, one of 15 children, Sister Elaine demonstrated her loving devotion to her family all the days of her life. A Sister of Mercy for 72 years and educated at then College Misericordia in Dallas, Pennsylvania, Sister Elaine enjoyed a diverse ministerial life.
During her early years, she taught elementary students at several schools in Western Pennsylvania. She also ministered as principal at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Altoona, St. Bernard School in Hastings, and Holy Cross School in Sangler, all in Pennsylvania, and became a reading specialist, assisting individuals with special needs. She served St. Nicholas Parish in Nicktown as a director of religious education, and later as a pastoral outreach minister for St. Mark Parish in Altoona.
At Mercy Center, Sister Elaine continued to serve in her ministry of prayer. Her motto, “Ecce Ancilla Domini” (Behold the Handmaid of the Lord), fittingly expresses her love of God and her commitment to her vocation.
