Age 88
A Sister of Mercy for 59 years, Sister Leona taught in Catholic elementary schools in the Pittsburgh and Greenburg, Pennsylvania, dioceses. She also served on the Mercy Hall infirmary staff at the Convent of Mercy and later served for more than 30 years in parish social ministry at St. Mary of the Mount Parish in Pittsburgh.
A friend said of her, “In keeping with her vows, Leona had a special affinity for people who were poor, sick or uneducated. She witnessed first-hand the struggles of elderly people to maintain themselves and their family homes, and personally sought help for them.”
