Age 73
Sister Joyce Ann Christy entered the Sisters of Mercy in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 41.
Born in Kansa City, Missouri, she attended grade school and high school in Arkansas. Prior to her entrance, she earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Arkansas Technical University in Russellville, Arkansas. Later she received a master’s degree from Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and certification as a physical therapist assistant from St. Louis Community College.
After teaching elementary school for nine years in the New Orleans and St. Louis dioceses, she became a physical therapist assistant. She ministered for 17 years in this vocation serving ten years at Life Care Centers of America in St. Louis, Missouri. At the time of her death, she lived in community with the senior Sisters of Mercy at Catherine’s Residence in St. Louis, Missouri. Her motto was “Praise God, All the Earth.”
