Age 94

Sister Janice Doody, a holy and hilarious women, possessed a gentle, compassionate love and concern for God’s poor.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Brooklyn, New York, at the age of 18 with her twin sister, Joan.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from St. John’s University in Brooklyn, New York, and a master’s degree in secondary education from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey.

Well-loved and known, she taught in elementary schools for four decades in the Brooklyn and Rockville Centre dioceses including 22 years at St. Patrick’s in Bayshore, New York. She served as a parish minister for one year at St. Patrick’s before embarking on a new ministerial journey, working with Father Francis Pizzarelli, a local priest who founded Hope House Ministries in Port Jefferson, New York. Here she worked with homeless and drug-addicted adults providing compassionate, comprehensive and competent care for the poor, the marginal and the wounded.
