Age 85
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Sister Jane Fox, RSM, entered the Sisters of Mercy in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Her ministry began as a high school teacher of history and religious studies in schools in San Francisco, Stockton, Monterey, and Vallejo, California. She held a bachelor’s degree in history from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a master’s degree in health care administration from the University of Michigan in Detroit, Michigan.
Sister Jane joined the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael for 24 years and then transferred to the Sisters of Mercy in 1989. As a Sister of Mercy, she ministered primarily in health care administration and hospice. For 22 years, she ministered in the Lansing, Michigan and Detroit dioceses. Sister Jane worked in mission services at Mercy Hospital in Detroit, in administration at the Sisters of Mercy Health Corporation in Detroit, and in emergency room support at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Michigan.
She kept active in retirement volunteering as a teacher and tutor of young women at the Mercy Education Project in Detroit, as a receptionist at Mercy Life Center in Frarmington Hills and at the Cancer Center at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Michigan.
