Age 87

Sister Mary Michaelanne Estoup was a Sister of Mercy for 67 years. She attended Holy Name of Jesus High School (Mercy Academy) and entered the Sisters of Mercy in St. Louis on September 8, 1954. A graduate of Webster College in Webster Groves, Missouri, she later went on to earn a master’s degree in education from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas.

Thirty-two years of elementary teaching saw her in schools in New Orleans, Metairie, Jenerette, Kenner, Louisiana, Oklahoma City, and Shawnee, Oklahoma. She went into chaplaincy training at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans from teaching. She became a full member of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. For 23 years, Michaelanne served as a chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri. She continued as a volunteer with the department until retiring in 2017 to Catherine’s Residence in St. Louis.

In proper Orleans form, Michaelanne was gregarious and fun-loving. She was always ready for a party, in which she would dance the night away.  She loved seafood, fishing, and the water. In retirement, she enjoyed reading and keeping up with friends on the phone.
