Sister Mary Judith Ann Carron, RSM, believed anything we do with good faith is God working within us. God worked within her with grace and love.
She entered the Sisters of Mercy in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 20. She held a bachelor’s degree in nursing from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, and a certificate in theology from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. A certified chaplain, she weaved together her nursing and chaplaincy skills to serve others.
Starting as a student nurse at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, within three years she was an administrator at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. After serving three years as a member of the formation team of the former St. Louis regional community, she decided to pursue her theology certification. Next, she served for two years as an infection control nurse and a chaplain at St. Francis Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
Her passion became caring for children with complex medical illnesses at SSM Cardinal Glennon Chi’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri, where she ministered for 22 years. In 1999, Sister Judy was instrumental in the vision and development of FOOTPRINTS, a program of advocacy and support for children with serious illnesses and their families. In 2008, she received The Women of the Well Leadership Award which recognizes Catholic sisters and lay women who are implementing the most innovative and creative solutions to the challenges in the community.
