Age 95
Sister María Magdalena possessed fidelity to Jesus, to prayer and to God’s lowly people.
The youngest of 12 siblings, Sister María Magdalenawas born in the pampas of Argentina. She entered the Sisters of Mercy at the age of 19 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A beloved educator, she taught at Santa Maria in Areco, Santa Ethnea in Bella Vista, and Santa Brígida and Mater in Buenos Aires. In 1974 she was one of the first in the community to respond to the Church’s call to leave institutional settings to accompany people living on the margins. She lived and worked in the poor neighborhoods that surrounded the city of Buenos Aires including Virreyes, Moreno, and Ramos Mejía.
She was a pioneer in the implementation of family catechesis and was renowned for her visits to each family, sharing life and making lasting friendships. In her last years of activity, she volunteered at the shrine of San Cayetano helping with spiritual and social services. An active member of Holy Cross Parish, she participated in a small faith base community.
