Age 76

A “connector of people,” Sister Peggy opened wide the circle of mercy to family, friends, and coworkers.

Within the circle of her loving and happy family home and her education at Holy Name of Jesus School and Hallahan High School, both in Philadelphia, Peggy developed a deep love of God and a desire to commit her life to God forever. On her 19th birthday, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in Merion, Pennsylvania. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Gwynedd-Mercy College (now University) in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in special education from St. Joseph College in Hartford, Connecticut.

An educator and administrator for over twenty years, Peggy initially taught first and second grade in the Allentown and Philadelphia dioceses. Next, she ministered at St. Katherine Day School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a Catholic diocesan school for children and youth with special needs, serving as a primary teacher then secondary teacher then principal. The children and families became the special recipients of her tender care and heart of mercy.

Serving in the Archdiocesan Office of Youth and Young Adults in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for the next twelve years, Peggy walked with people with disabilities, transforming their lives with opportunities for inclusion and happiness. In her final years of ministry at Mercy Career and Technical High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she served as a learning strategies specialist helping young students with her compassionate commitment.
