Age 78

A woman of deep faith, Margee possessed a strong sense of community and the gift of laughter and generosity. She embodied the values of compassion, service, and hope, leaving an enduring legacy in the lives of the children, students, families, and colleagues she touched.

After attending Catherine McAuley High School in Brooklyn, New York, Margee entered the Sisters of Mercy in Syosset, New York, at the age of 19. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Brentwood College in Brentwood, New York, a master’s degree in religious education from Fordham University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Bank Street College, both in New York, New York.

Initially she taught for four years at St. Brigid’s in Brooklyn, New York. After eight years as a vocation director, she returned to her alma mater, Catherine McAuley High School, first as a teacher for seven years, a co-principal for seven years and then president for 12 years. For eight years she served on the leadership team of the former Brooklyn Regional Community.

Next, she worked for 12 years on the Brooklyn campus of Mercy First, a Mercy-sponsored social service organization, working in advancement and post-adoption services and then grant writing.

A larger-than-life personality, Margee’s work exemplifies the mission of the Sisters of Mercy and promotes social justice and support to those in need.
