Age 91
Inspired by her motto, “Thy will be done,” Sister Lucy was an avid pro-life advocate.
She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at the age of 20. She graduated from Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids with a bachelor’s degree in American history, theology and elementary education.
Sister Lucy’s first ministry was teaching younger children for 15 years in the primary grades at Catholic schools throughout the Dubuque, Iowa diocese. Next, she served as a substitute teacher for five years throughout the Cedar Rapids diocese.
She then chose another career path and received her cosmetology license. For 15 years, she compassionately served the sisters at Sacred Heart Convent in Dubuque, Iowa, by cutting, styling, and coloring their hair. Next, she worked for 13 years as a receptionist at Kirkwood College, also in Dubuque.
In retirement Sister Lucy was very active in the Cedar Rapids Community as a volunteer for Birthright, Mt. Mercy College, Oakhill Neighborhood Enterprise Store and St Vincent DePaul.
