Age 89
After attending Mother of Mercy High School, Sister Jean felt called to become a sister and entered the Sisters of Mercy in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 18.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Our Lady of Cincinnati College (the former Edgecliff College) and a master’s degree in counseling from Xavier University, both in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Sister Jean’s educational ministry spanned over 30 years, mostly at her alma mater Mother of Mercy High School. For seven of those years, she served as a guidance counselor. For three years, she served as the principal of St. Teresa of Avila School in Cincinnati. After she retired from education, she worked another 12 years in the Development Office of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Her final ministry was volunteering at Mercy Neighborhood Ministries in Cincinnati.
A reader who especially enjoyed historical and romance novels Jean also delighted in sewing, knitting, gardening, reading and traveling with her dear friend Gert Stefanko. More serious than fun loving, she had the reputation of being an excellent teacher and an effective college counselor.
Very private about her prayer life, she was present at Mass and community prayers each day. A woman of Mercy, she was always willing to come and follow Jesus.
