Age 93
Sister Mary Sharon grew up in Queens, New York, where she enjoyed a happy childhood with her parents and brother Michael. An excellent student who loved learning, she graduated from St. Agnes Academy and entered the business world. Unable to resist the call to religious life, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in Syosset, New York, at the age of 25. At profession, Sister Sharon took the motto “Take and receive.” It continued to guide her throughout her life.
Sister Sharon was a teacher at St. Patrick’s in Bay Shore, New York, and St. Therese of Lisieux, St. Gregory and Catherine McAuley High School in Brooklyn, New York. She developed a great love for and devotion to St. Therese, which strengthened her on her life journey. In later years, she embarked on a new ministry as part of the daycare/early child education support staff of Lakeside Children’s Services in Brooklyn. This proved to be a positive experience for Sister Sharon, and the children and staff as well.
Sister Sharon will be remembered as a quiet, prayerful sister and faithful friend who was happy to be of service behind the scenes, service that was provided with grace and dignity. May she rest in peace.
