Age 82
A woman of deep faith, Sister Mary Margaret was always welcoming in her roles as an elementary school teacher, bookkeeper, and volunteer.
Born in Troy, New York, Sister Mary Margaret entered the Sisters of Mercy in Albany, New York, at the age of 23. She earned an associate’s degree from Maria College in Albany, New York, a bachelor’s degree in in elementary education with a minor in English from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York, and a master’s degree from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York.
She began her teaching ministry at St. Joseph’s and later taught at the Vincentian Institute and St. Margaret Mary’s, all in Albany, New York. Margaret also taught at St. Joseph’s in Scotia, New York, and St. Patrick’s in Ravena, New York, and Holy Cross in Westmere, New York. Her final teaching assignments were at Waterford Central Catholic in Waterford, New York, followed by St. Joseph’s in Rensselaer, New York.
Sister Mary Margaret next ministered for 30 years at Community Maternity Services in Albany, New York, helping with the books and later, as a volunteer, where she was known for her attention to detail and her love of animals. After moving to the Convent of Mercy in Albany, New York, Margaret served as a sacristan at the chapel for several years.
