Age 77
A woman of deep faith and spirituality, Sister Nicoletta was known for her keen intellect, musical talents, and good measure of common sense.
The oldest of nine children, Nickie’s phenomenal memory enabled her to become the family archivist, storing and sharing the details of each sibling’s birthdays and special family events in her mind and heart. At the age of 19, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in Merion, Pennsylvania.
A bachelor’s degree in education from Gwynedd-Mercy University in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in elementary education from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, prepared Nickie for her initial ministry in elementary education. For nearly three decades, she taught children in parish schools in Philadelphia and Allentown and at Waldron Mercy Academy in Merion, Pennsylvania. For eight years, she served as principal at Annunciation Blessed Virgin Mary School in Havertown, Pennsylvania. Her end-of-the-day wish for her students was that they would have a “beautiful sunny day.” An avid reader and college sports fan, she was an excellent source of information.
From 1996 until the present, Nickie immersed herself in pastoral ministries, serving in roles of pastoral associate and catechist in several parishes in the Philadelphia area. She also generously contributed her musical and liturgical expertise to the parishes where she served as organist and choir director. Her dedication to parish life and her service to the parishioners endeared her to all. Most recently, Nickie was a volunteer at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, bringing comfort to those most in need.
Throughout her recent illness, Nickie’s deep faith and spiritual nature shone brightly, finding her peace in God’s will for her.
