Age 83
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sister Mary Louise Huitink died peacefully on March 1, 2025, at Mercy Convent in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 83 years old and a Sister of Mercy for 65 years.
Sister Louise devoted her life to educating young children. She taught reading and instilled values that prepared them for the future and developed them as people of integrity. She served in elementary and special education schools in Cincinnati, Ohio; Potomac, Maryland; and Nashville, Tennessee.
In addition to her ministry of education, Sister Louise served the elderly at Mercy Neighborhood Ministries in Cincinnati. She assisted them by providing access to food, transportation, medical care and activities. In 2015, she moved to Mercy Convent in Nashville, Tennessee, where she supported the retreat ministry by offering gracious hospitality to guests as well as assisting in the convent in many generous and selfless ways.
Committed to Jesus Christ, Sister Louise led a life of compassion. She embodied hospitality following the legacy of Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy. Her ring motto was, “In Him I can do all things,” reflecting her reliance on God to guide and support her.
Sister Louise was outgoing and fun-loving. Many have spoken about the joy she was to be around. She liked to travel to appreciate the many cultures that make up our world. She could play cards with the best of them, and she knew how to enjoy and appreciate friends and community members alike. Sister Louise was known for her infectious laugh and beautiful smile that was always welcoming. She will be greatly missed.
