Sister Margaret (Peg) Jeanne Maloney

Age 70

A tireless advocate for the socially marginalized and unabashed in her support of justice and equity for the poor, Sister Peg lived and taught Jesuit values.

At the age of 22, Sister Peg entered the Sisters of Mercy in Omaha, Nebraska. Initially serving as a teacher’s assistant, she interned at the Catholic Pastoral Center in Denver, Colorado. She then worked for 14 years for the Archdiocese of Denver, Colorado, serving first as the director of peace and justice, then secretary for social concerns and finally assistant to Archbishop Hanifan in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

She was elected to leadership for five years for the former West Midwest community of the Sisters of Mercy. Most recently she worked with Sacred Heart Jesuit Retreat House providing spiritual direction and leading retreats.

A dedicated teacher, she spent many years teaching, providing spiritual guidance, and working in mission and ministry at both Regis University in Denver, Colorado, and Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Most recently she worked with Sacred Heart Jesuit Retreat House in Sedalia, Colorado, providing spiritual direction and leading retreats.
