Age 82
Ellen entered the Sisters of Mercy in Providence, Rhode Island, at the age of 24.
Following in her mother’s footsteps, she always wanted to be a nurse. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island.
For 34 years, she served as the health coordinator for the former province of Cumberland, Rhode Island, of the Sisters of Mercy. With her nursing bag in tow, she cared for sisters in infirmaries, at home, by phone and at Mount St Rita Health Center in Cumberland, Rhode Island, where she received an award in 2009 for her service.
Ellen also served as a nurse in the Looking Upwards program in Middleton, Rhode Island, for ten years where she ministered to a group of 23 developmentally disabled women. Next, she worked for 12 years as a clinic nurse for Visiting Nurse Services in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
In retirement, Ellen served as an Eucharistic Minister for the sick at St. Catherine’s Parish in Little Compton, Rhode Island.
