Age 86
Sister Francesca lived her motto: “I can do all things in Him who strengthens me.” An unforgettable character, she could be counted upon to speak her mind.
Born in New York City, Sister Francesca first met the Sisters of Mercy in elementary school at Holy Cross School in Rumson, New Jersey, and later at Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung, New Jersey. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Watchung after her high school graduation at the age of 18.
She held a bachelor’s degree in English from Georgian Court College in Lakewood, New Jersey and later earned a master’s degree in English from Phoenix University and a master’s degree in theology, also from Georgian Court.
For 19 years she taught middle school and high school in the Metuchen, Trenton and Camden, New Jersey dioceses. In 1977, she returned to Georgian Court College, her alma mater, where she served as director of the Center for Christian Concerns. She then continued to serve at Georgian Court in several staff positions until 2013 when she retired to Gabriel Hall at Mount Saint Mary in Watchung.
Known as Aunt Grandma to her nieces and nephews and their children, Sister Francesca was blessed with a close and loving family. Well into her eighties she was still interested in learning, growing, and helping others. She faced her final illness and death with the peace and confidence that springs from a life of faith.
