Age 92
Sister Louise, affectionately known as “Lou,” dedicated her life to God in her religious community and in service through the ministry of teaching.
After graduating from high school she entered the Sisters of Mercy. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from the Diocesan Teachers’ College in Madison, Connecticut, and a master’s degree in math education from Saint Joseph College in West Hartford, Connecticut.
An elementary school teacher for 24 years, she taught in the Bridgeport, Hartford and Norwich, Connecticut dioceses. She served as principal for nine years at St. Patrick’s School in Norwich, Connecticut, and for 18 years at St. James School in Manchester, Connecticut. Lou also taught math at the high school level for ten years at Mercy High School in Norwich, Connecticut.
Recognizing the value of education on all levels, she championed the integration of academics with self-development and social responsibility. Known for her clear, inspiring leadership, Sister Lou’s influence extended beyond the classroom.
