Age 84

Sister Ellen showed her love of God as she lived out her motto: “Where love is, there is God,” with a deep faith and sense of community.

As a student at Bishop McConnell High School in Brooklyn, New York, Ellen explored new visions and possibilities of life choices and started her Mercy journey at the age of 19. She earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from St. John’s University in Brooklyn, New York, and a master’s degree in educational psychology from Fordham University in the Bronx.

A teacher in the Brooklyn diocese for 28 years, she also served as a pastoral minister at St. Augustine Parish in Brooklyn, New York for 23 years. Ellen truly left her mark in every school and parish. She loved to capture special moments through the lens of her camera and preserve the experience of joy and celebration.

Throughout her life, Ellen enjoyed the gift and graces of a loving family who communicated often and lovingly with one another. She loved life, music, Irish step dancing and times at Breezy Point, a beach on the southern coast of New York in Queens.
