Age 84
Much loved as an outstanding teacher and school administrator, Sister Inés possessed an intense love for rural Argentina and the people in need who lived there.
Most of her school years were spent as a boarder in Colegio Santa Brigida in the city of Buenos Aires. At the age of 19, she entered the Sisters of Mercy. A beloved teacher and school administrator, she served in Sta. María de la Asunción in Areco, Mater Misericordia in Buenos Aires and Sta. Ethnea in Bella Vista. Her former students to this day remember her compassion, wisdom, and extraordinary talent as a music teacher.
Motivated by the call in the 1970’s to move out to the abandoned margins of Argentine society, Inés was among the first to promote the presence of our sisters in poor barrios in Moreno, Chaco, Neuquén, Rio Negro and Clorinda, Argentina. She also volunteered in a hospice primarily for indigent persons and lovingly cared for our own infirmed sisters.
In her later years, Inés worked extensively with women’s groups promoting a wholistic, ecofeminist spirituality with a profound connection to Pachamama (Mother Earth). One of her last wishes was to include earth from her family’s farm as part of her funeral rites and fire as a symbol of Cosmic Christ.
