Age 80

Sister Susan Fitzpatrick was a Sister of Mercy for 44 years. She entered the Sisters of Mercy from St. Joan of Arc Parish in Boca Raton, Florida, in 1978 and made final vows in 1986.

In addition to a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duquesne University, she earned a Master’s degree from Barry University in Miami, FL.

Sister Susan worked in pastoral ministry to the sick and elderly at St. Joan of Arc Parish in Boca Raton and ministered in adoption and family counseling in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area. After moving to Pittsburgh in 1990, she served in social work at Mercy Hospital and, most recently, at Pittsburgh Mercy, where she provided compassionate service to individuals with addiction.

A few years ago, Sister Susan wrote that she liked to watch people learn to believe in themselves – “to discover the treasure inside of them, to hear their own call.”

She was also committed to people served by Shepherd’s Heart, a transitional housing service for homeless veterans.
