Age 93

Sister Ellen Farrell was a Sister of Mercy for 74 years. Sister Ellen attended Catholic Schools from elementary through her master’s program. 

On September 8, 1947, she entered the Sisters of Mercy Novitiate in Syosset, New York. At Reception, on March 29, 1948, she received the religious name Sister Mary Admirabilis and took final profession vows on September 5, 1953. 

Sister Ellen taught first grade for 16 years in various Catholic elementary schools in the Dioceses of Brooklyn and Rockville Centre, New York. She became religious studies coordinator at Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, New York. For eight years, she also served as principal at St. Gerard’s Elementary school in Hollis, New York, and then as Pastoral Care Coordinator and Pastoral Associate in the same parish. Retiring in 2004 after 34 years in St. Gerard’s Parish, she resided in Syosset, New York.

In 2014 she moved to Marian Woods, Hartsdale, New York. She enjoyed the peaceful spirit of community there and the opportunity to develop her prayer life further. Ellen truly appreciated the gifts of the Sisters and staff of Marian Woods and always cherished her family and friends.
