Age 95
Sister Jeanette Thomas was a Sister of Mercy for 75 years. Sister Jeanette began a fifty-year career as a primary grade teacher. Her first assignment was Immaculate Conception in Westerly, Rhode Island. After seven years, she moved to the Fall River Diocese, where she would spend the rest of her service in the Fall River and New Bedford schools. She is remembered as a humble soul who took great joy in the service of others. At any gathering she would have the tea pot and be sure that all was served.
After retiring from teaching, she lived in a community in New Bedford, Massachusetts, where the sisters’ home provided meals for and help for those sisters living alone. She moved to Franklin Court in Bristol, Rhode Island, where she prepared for the liturgies and continued to serve others. She loved walking and was often seen exploring the beauty of Bristol.
Her final days were spent at Mount St. Rita Health Centre, where she prayed and ministered to those around her. Her humility, hospitality, and prayerfulness exemplified the motto she chose at Profession: “All for the honor and glory of God.”
