Age 88

Sister Mary Amelia Charpentier, formerly Esther Charpentier, was a Sister of Mercy for 72 years.

During her 72 years as a Sister of Mercy, Sister Amelia served in many capacities. In her early years, she taught in various schools in the Providence, Rhode Island, Diocese. In 1962, Sister Amelia began her 28 years of service to the people of Belize in Central America. This mission always remained dear to her heart. Her love for the Belizean people showed itself through her teaching and the mentoring of young teachers. Beyond the structure of the classroom, her joy was to visit and deliver meals to people in neighboring villages.

When Sister Amelia returned to the United States in 1990, she continued her work with families served by Dorcas Place and Providence Family Learning Center. In her quiet gentle way, she was truly a Sister of Mercy.
